A universal compass<\/h3>\n

This matrix is essentially a four-quadrant coordinate system, where each quadrant represents a distinct domain of reality<\/strong>. Through it, almost anything can be examined \u2013 and it is worth doing so \u2013 in order to take into account all the essential and relevant aspects<\/strong> of whatever we are seeking to understand.<\/p>\n

The four faces of reality<\/h3>\n

The upper quadrants represent the individual domain, the lower ones the collective. The left side reflects the inner world, the right side the outer. Together, they form the four quadrants \u2013 the four faces of reality:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • the inner individual<\/strong> (UL), shaped by a person\u2019s own thoughts and feelings;<\/li>\n
  • the outer individual<\/strong> (UR), the external world that surrounds and contains the person;<\/li>\n
  • the inner collective<\/strong> (LL), grounded in shared meaning, agreement, and lived experience;<\/li>\n
  • the outer collective<\/strong> (LR), defined by the physical systems and processes shaping our common environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    <\/h3>\n

    A clear, navigable map<\/h3>\n

    If we identify our tasks<\/strong> along the directions defined by the 4Rs, then break them down thematically into manageable goals and place them within the appropriate areas of the matrix, the direction of our preparation becomes clear<\/strong>. In doing so, our efforts become more coherent and easier to follow, supporting more effective adaptation.<\/p>\n

    As guidance, a few basic examples<\/h2>\n

    Securing our basic needs<\/strong> is clearly an outer task<\/em>, ideally done in ways that are as independent as possible from existing global systems. These needs include: water, food, health, and safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    In practice, nearly all other external tasks can be linked to one of these four core categories and then broken down into achievable, manageable goals<\/strong>. While these are outward-facing tasks, they require effort at both the individual and community levels.<\/p>\n

    However, none of this can succeed if individuals do not attend to their inner tasks.<\/h3>\n

    Mental and emotional preparation:<\/strong> recognising and accepting what lies ahead for ourselves and those we love.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • For the vast majority of people, there may be little alternative.<\/li>\n
    • This forms the foundation for every further step, including the ability to take in and process information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      <\/strong><\/p>\n

      Strengthening human relationships:<\/strong> giving them real substance and vitality.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • This possibility remains open to everyone.<\/li>\n
      • In time, it may be that little else retains its value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
